25.06.02 (Tue),
English Version
I visited Camping 808 at Chungju Lake, which is so popular it’s booked out a month in advance. I managed to lock down a spot right after the presidential election date was announced following the impeachment.
The drive from Seoul took about 1 hour and 50 minutes. The check-in time was 2 p.m., and we showed up just a bit after that.
Honestly, my first impression was a little disappointing—it didn’t match the scale I’d imagined from the website. The view over the lake was beautiful, but since it was the dry season, the water level had dropped a lot.
At the entrance, the manager checked us in and explained some key rules. Our site, B2, was on the second level, second from the left, with a nice view of the lake. Even though the temperature was just 26°C, it felt like midsummer due to the lack of shade. We brought a portable AC, but it wasn’t strong enough to cool the tent—though thankfully, the power supply was sufficient.
The nearby sites with trees looked like the best ones. Still, after setting up the tent and sitting down, I could really wind down thanks to the peaceful scenery.
Overall, the facilities were clean, but the bathrooms and wash stations were small, and if you showered late, the water pressure and temperature were low. At night, it dropped to 13°C, and without a heater, it was pretty cold. The noise from other campers also made it hard to sleep.
Some pros and cons really stood out.
Pros: Beautiful view, open layout, clean management, sufficient power
Cons: Campsites too close together, crying kids (not a kid-free zone), small bathroom area, no shade—bring a tarp or AC
